We use real cotton duck canvases that are stretched over kiln-dried wood frames and primed. Unlike canvas panels that are flat, our canvases have sides that can be painted and add depth when hung on a wall.
For the best results, we recommend using acrylic paint. It's both permanent and dries relatively quickly. However, acrylic paint does not come off clothes, upholstery, rugs, and curtains.
If you have younger kids and are concerned about using acrylic paint, you can use tempera paint. Tempera paint is washable and produces decent results. However, tempera paint tends to fade over time making the painting look dull as it ages. To retain the clarity and look of your child's work, you can apply a thinned acrylic varnish or medium.

Building positive experiences
Drawing is only one of the many skills that make up canvas painting and often requires years of practice to master. Pre-sketching the image makes it easier for kids to get to the fun of mixing, layering, and blending colors without the frustration. This helps kids practice their strokes using different types of brushes and see the texture they create instead of worrying about their drawing not looking just right.
Inspire an interest in arts
By making canvas painting easier, kids can create works they can be proud of. Works they can hang on their wall with positive associations that encourage them to come back to it again in the future.
